Famous People

What a success!

Einstein and Brady

Betsy Ross, Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan, and you guessed it - Abe Lincoln!

Annie Oakley, Mia Hamm and the infamous Steve Jobs.

The children did such an amazing job today presenting about the famous person they studied. I am so proud and impressed with their perseverance and hard work! Thank you all for coming in today. We got some great pictures and finished our Chatterpix project this afternoon as well. We hope you enjoy it!

Biography Report Project

The students in Room 210 have also begun their extensive study on biographies and famous people. Each child has chosen a person to study in depth, and we are deep into researching for a biography report we will be writing. Save the date for a special presentation showcasing the research of our famous people in our classroom on April 15 at 9:15. On this day, your child will have the opportunity to dress up as their famous person and present their knowledge in a format of their choosing. Stay tuned for more details!

Can you guess who we have chosen to study?

How has your famous person made a difference? Leave a comment about something you learned from our famous person presentation!

December Fun!

The holiday season is a busy time in Room 210. So much learning is going on and we can’t wait to share it with you! There are only sixteen school days in the month of December, but these days are jam-packed with exciting learning. Here's a preview of what we can look forward to this month:

Writing - We will begin creative writing this month! The children will have the chance to write a creative story about the elf they will create at the Elf Store. They will be practicing using dialogue in their stories, as well as strengthening their use of interesting adjectives and varied sentence structure.

Math - We will finish our unit on bar models this week, but will continue to use them to solve problems throughout the rest of the year. Later this month we will work on the concepts of multiplication and division. *If you log on to Think Central, click on ‘my library’, and then click on ‘math in focus math background videos’, there are videos explaining the concepts that are being taught in each chapter. These can be very helpful!*

Social Studies - Our next unit will shift our focus to geography, where the children will learn about maps, landforms, bodies of water, continents, the major mountain ranges and rivers of our world. We will be creating our own 3D maps of the world later this month (or early next year) using various mediums. We'll be looking for parent helpers when the project gets closer!

Elf Store - Our Elf Store will take place on Friday, 12/5 from 11-12:15. This is a very fun event where the children will get to practice their money skills, as well as problem solving skills, to figure out how to decorate their elf while staying within a budget. We need many volunteers for this activity so please let me or our room mom know if you are able to come in to help out! Thanks in advance!
