Our Popsicle Reward Day 5/29

As a reward for great classroom behavior, the children have earned another special activity. After much brainstorming they voted to have their morning reading block outside with popsicles! After such a hot week, I thought this was a great idea. The children loved eating the popsicles and did a great job staying on task with their reading assignments while enjoying the fresh air. I think we might have to do this one again in the upcoming weeks!

Measurement homework 5/13/15

Today the children began a new unit in math. We are learning about rulers and how they can be used to measure and compare how long and tall things are. Today in the classroom we had fun measuring other student's arm lengths, the length of desks, and the length of our entire classroom from door to window. For homework, I would like the children to measure their bedroom from one end of the room to the other. The children are to comment on this blog post and share their measurement findings. The children are to comment their answers in feet and inches. If the children don't have a ruler, that is okay! The children can just make a guess as to how many feet/inches they think their bedroom floor is. Please don't go out and buy rulers if you don't have one.:) Have a FANTASTIC night!

Kylie was surprised to see that her grandmother was our Mystery Guest Reader this week! Thank you for coming in Mrs. Connelly!

Teacher's Appreciation Assembly

What an honor to be a part of this assembly today! The children worked hard and put on quite a rock show for the teachers! Mrs. Mack came for lunch today and then spent time with the children in the afternoon prior to the assembly. She was so proud of how well they were doing and was impressed with all that they had learned in the short time she has been gone! Yay 2nd graders! Keep up the hard work! Also, thank you VERY much for the beautiful flowers from the class. They will look beautiful in my garden at home!

Gabe's mom surprised the class today as the Mystery Guest Reader.

Happy May!

We had a very busy week last week! The children have done a great job adjusting to their new teacher as well as to the changes in their classroom.

On Friday the children got to listen to a fascinating presentation from Cynde McInnis, founder of The Whalemobile.
Meet Nile, a 43 foot inflatable model of the real Nile who can often be spotted spending her summers off the coast of Massachusetts.

In the belly of Nile they go!
The children learned ways in which whales are similar to humans.

The children have really been enjoying earned motor breaks throughout their school day!
The students have been working hard in math learning about money as well as fractions.

The girls are enjoying reading their procedural text during our reading block. The students have learned that procedural texts come in many forms. In this photo, the girls are reading a cookbook.
